Bringing the number of African Canvas Memory Quilts to 60 is African Valentine (Part Two). This quilt is the twin of African Valentine (Part One). This quilt also has red Valentine fabric on the back. The Valenetine theme is carried forward on the front of the quilt with embellished words of love. The black binding has a heart motif.
African Valentine (Part Two) measures 20 x 30 inches and was finished in early 2007. It is signed and numbered. This quilt is offered for sale in the Clara Ford Foundation Ebay Store.

African Christmas Tree Finds Home in Charlotte, NC

African Christmas Tree is a companion piece to African Christmas Melody. It measures 17 x 40 inches. It also has red binding and sashing in keeping with the season. However, the back of the quilt has a gold tinged Christmas tree fabric. The quilt is embellished on the front with Christmas applique patches and other Christmas motifs.

African Christmas Tree was purchased by a collector in Charlotte, NC.

African Christmas Melody

African Christmas Melody is number 57 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt series. It has red binding and sashing. It gets its name from the green and taupe musical note fabric on the back of the quilt, as well as the Christmas embellishments on the front of the quilt.

African Christmas Melody measures 16 x 39 inches. It is part of my private collection.

A Quiet Day with My Books was made for the office gift exchange for Christmas, 2006. It is numbeer 56 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt series. It measures 39 x 41 inches. It has book fabric on the back. The sashing and binding are brown.

After it was won by Pam, it was personalized for her.

The Greatest Friendship

The Greatest Friendship is a special quilt made for Michael, a very special person in my life. In 1966 I was part of the first wave of the integration of public schools in Crossett, AR. I was in the 7th grade and had previously attended segregated schools. During that turbulent time when some questioned whether blacks and whites should be “mixing”, I made a lifelong friend. Over 30 years later, we re-connected when he called me up out of the blue to ask if it would be okay if he nominated me for consideration for the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation Board of Directors. Our time on that Board together turned out to be really special. When he rotated off the Board this month, I presented him with The Greatest Friendship.

The Greatest Friendship has great meaning for the two of us. There are lots of personal clues to our lives in this quilt including Norman Junior High School, our friendly race to be valedictorian of the class of 1972, and, of course, the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.

I know Michael will treasure The Greatest Friendship as a small token of my thanks for the indelible impression he made on my life.

African Autumn (Part Two) is number 53/100 of the African Canvas Memory Quilt© series. It measures 27 inches x 33 inches. On the back is a multi colored stripe print reminiscent of a colorful autumn day. Hence the name. The binding and the sashing is rich gold.

African Autumn (Part Two) was purchased by a collector in Cincinnati, OH along with its twin African Autumn (Part One). Both quilts are heavily embellished and have a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display.
